If You Can't Do What You Want, Do What You Can

We suppose there must be people out there who run out of things to do. But if you're someone who's into crafting or running a business (or both), that's probably not you. You're more likely like us: too many ideas, never enough time.

One of the great challenges in life (at least, the life of someone with the privilege of choice) is coming to terms with the fact that you cannot, in fact, do everything. You can't read all the great books, watch all the award-winning movies, see all the perfect sunsets. You can't make all the cookie recipes saved on your Pinterest board, let alone all the quilts. And you definitely can't get to the bottom of your to-do list if you're the kind of person who adds things faster than checking them off. It's mathematically impossible.

This is frustrating, but it's also kind of freeing. If you can't do everything, why struggle to try? Instead, do the best you can within the realm of (realistic) possibility. We can't say we've actually reached that point of balance, but it's something we strive for, at least.

Goals, prioritizing and delegating are topics we'll be covering more of in the new year. As for now, we've got a new piece by Gemma Smith, who talks about her efforts to balance her small crafting business with parenting three kids. (We know some of you can sympathize.) And you can also revisit business coach Kim Cota's tips on managing priorities and actually getting things done.

Or, settle down on the couch with a mug of hot cocoa and a good book. Laziness doesn't exist, after all, and you know you deserve it.

Yours in making,
